Bob Radocy story featured in Amplitude Magazine

Last September right before the elk bowhunt opened, TRS founder Bob Radocy and a long time friend, Bruno, were scouting elk along the Uncompahgre Plateau in Colorado. In the middle of nowhere 30 miles from the nearest town Bob and his friend parked their truck and climbed an outcrop to survey the the canyon. Just before dusk another truck pulled up and a dad and some kids jumped out of the truck.

Just before dusk another truck pulled up and a dad and some kids jumped out of the truck.

After greetings were shared, they learned that the family were also bowhunters. The oldest boy about 12 noticed Bob’s unique terminal device and Bob asked him if he’d ever seen a device like it before. The boy, Jace, grew wide-eyed and signaled to his younger brother who was missing his right hand.

Jaron (9) lost his hand in an accident with a meat grinder two years previous and he’d been unable to shoot a bow with his dad and siblings since. He’d never tried archery with a prosthesis as previous options hadn’t worked out. Whether it was divine intervention or serendipity, Jaron had just met the one man who could not only give him that hope for getting his sport back, but was an avid bowhunter as well – all in the middle of nowhere Colorado.

Bob helped Jaron connect with prosthetist Brian Karsten, a long time colleague and fellow bowhunter in Grand Junction and offered to donate a device that would help Jaron with his archery. Brian agreed to help fit the device at no cost and by the end of the process Jaron was able to shoot an arrow for the first time since his accident.

Bob Radocy was the founder and CEO of TRS and is now executive vice president of Fillauer TRS. He is a former Paralympian and winner of the inaugural Cybathlon, an international assistive-technology competition, in 2016.
